I didn’t grow up wanting to start a candle company. I can’t imagine many people do.
Most of my life has been spent outdoors — hiking, climbing, chasing the quiet that lives on mountaintops and forest trails. But during the pandemic, everything changed. I spent over two years on active duty, living out of hotel rooms across New York while helping lead data efforts to predict outbreaks. It was overwhelming. And nowhere felt like home.
So I built small rituals to cope. Lighting a candle. Cleaning off the desk. Playing music. Writing. Simple things that helped me feel human again.
Eventually, even after that chapter ended, those rituals stayed. I began experimenting with wax and scent — trying to capture the feeling of the places I missed. It wasn’t a business yet. Just something that felt right.
Then, in 2024, I lost my job. And in the middle of all that uncertainty, I came back to candles. Not because I thought they’d fix everything, but because they helped me feel steady when everything else was falling apart.
That’s where Clear Mountain Provisions began — not as a brand, but as a lifeline.
