The Story Behind the Candle
Lily Von Hammersmarch, cherished companion and adventure dog to Jess, passed away on April 19, 2024, at only eight years old.
Lily's journey ended following complications during an emergency surgery. Despite a brave fight, she succumbed to cardiac arrest, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering loyalty and her boundless spirit.
Jess's life was forever changed when she welcomed Lily at just eight months old in 2016. From the moment they met, it was clear that Lily was more than a pet; she was a beacon of joy, a soulmate, and an irreplaceable part of Jess's life. Over eight years, they explored the backwoods of the Adirondacks, the Catskills, and the Berkshires, and ventured along countless trails on the East Coast. They swam, camped, and reveled in the tranquility of the great outdoors, culminating in a memorable first visit to the North Carolina coast just last year. I can not recall a time when Lily was not by Jess's side—an unwavering companion and source of endless happiness.
Throughout their time together, Lily was a constant beacon of comfort during triumphs and trials, often being the only light in Jess's darkest moments. Her indomitable spirit was evident in her eagerness to explore and her innate ability to comfort. Every return home was a celebration, and every morning with Lily promised the chance of a new adventure.
Lily's passing is a stark reminder of the fleeting lives of our beloved dogs compared to our own. We had envisioned many more years of shared adventures and peaceful moments of companionship. The reality that these dreams will remain unfulfilled brings daily heartache. It is difficult to put into words the challenge that comes with losing a beloved pet and a family member. Though her time with us was tragically short, Lily's impact on our lives is profound and enduring. She taught us the true meaning of loyalty, courage, and unconditional love. And, as we navigate this loss, we find comfort in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide us—just as it always has.
In honor of Lily's memory and the boundless joy she brought into our lives, we proudly introduce the "Lily's Mountain" memorial candle. This specially crafted candle celebrates Lily's spirit and supports a cause close to our hearts. All profits from the sale of each candle will be donated to the Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue organization, helping other dogs receive the care and love they deserve.
Rest in peace, Lily. You were more than a companion; you were a guardian, a piece of our hearts. At Clear Mountain Provisions, we take pride in using nothing but the best for our handcrafted candles. Our careful selection of premium ingredients includes rich-smelling additive-free fragrance oils and locally sourced all-American soy wax.

Each candle is handcrafted in our Raleigh, North Carolina apartment. Due to the nature of handcrafted products, slight variations should be expected from candle to candle, such as minor wax discoloration and deformation, labels that are not perfectly centered, variations in color for candle lids, or small markings or blemishes on the candle jar exterior. These imperfections will never affect the quality of the candle - we have spent over two years perfecting our candle recipe and manufacturing process. Please remember that certain fragrances may cause the inside of candle tins to rust; this is an entirely normal reaction to the ingredients used.

With your candle, trimming the wick before each use is essential for a cleaner, longer-lasting burn with minimal soot. Accumulated carbon on the wick, a normal result of burning, can lead to increased soot and excessive heat when relit, diminishing the quality of your candle's performance. If you see black smoke on the inside or edge of your candles, carbon buildup is likely the culprit. Always trim your wicks to 1/4 inch to remove this buildup.
Always allow your candle to burn for 30 minutes to an hour, allowing a full wax pool to form. If you blow our your candle before a full wax pool (edge to edge) has formed, you may reduce the life of your candle.

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue (SSR) is a non-profit organization established in January 2017, focusing primarily on rescuing German Shepherd Dogs and their mixes, especially those facing high risk of euthanasia in overburdened shelters. Based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, SSR extends its efforts particularly to south Texas, known for high shelter euthanasia rates. This region's challenges include a large number of stray dogs, low spay and neuter rates, and an overwhelmed shelter system.
SSR distinguishes itself by taking in dogs that other rescues might not, including those with medical issues, those in need of costly surgeries, or those that are heartworm positive. These dogs are first cared for and vetted in Texas; once they are healthy enough, they are transported to Virginia where they meet their foster caregivers. The organization operates on a foster-based model, meaning all rescued dogs are placed in home environments to prepare them for adoption into forever homes.
